Why did you apply for a UK Finance internship?Being interested in the financial services industry and functioning of the markets, I thought UK Finance could provide me a great insight into the industry and develop my knowledge.
What were your first few weeks like?My first few weeks at UK Finance were better than I hoped for: I met a lot of people and started learning about what UK Finance does. In the first weeks my tasks ranged from simple data entry, to creating reports on membership engagement, analysing bank support for Taskforce for Climate-related Financial Disclosures, to meeting with bank representatives and attending high-level meetings. I also attended internal lunch and learn meetings to gain a deep insight about the different sides of the financial services industry.
What's been your favourite part of your internship experience, so far?So far, my favourite part is being able to attend those high-level meetings to get exposure to the people who are real experts in their fields, but also to understand the latest industry dynamics - from learning about capital requirements, to the processes and implications of Brexit.
What has surprised you most about the work you?ve been doing at UK Finance? That I am able to produce work that has valuable to others in the organisation, as producing meaningful work motivates me.
What advice would you give to someone considering applying for an internship next year?Anyone interested in learning about financial services in one of the world-leading financial centres should definitely consider applying. At UK Finance you will get great exposure to the industry as a whole, and you will also see the interplay between the private and public sector through analysis of new regulation and seeing business interests in the government legislation.
What are your plans and hopes post-internship career-wise?Post-internship I still have two years at university, but I am interested in a career in financial services - either understanding the functioning of the markets, or exploring the technological advances that impact the future of financial services.
