In Course 2 we look at the threats to and mitigation of material topics.  This includes moving from gross exposure to day-to-day exposure and identifying the process flow that surrounds material topics, their threats and mitigation of them. Additionally, we investigate the use of material topic assessments for business benefit.

In the second hour, we look at the metrics that may help us in managing material topics and their threats and have to set relevant thresholds to these metrics. An example is reviewed of an ESG internal report and dashboard and early warning signals for material topics and their threats are discussed.

In the third hour, we look at capture and use ESG incidents that happened both to the firm and to other firms. We also look at root cause analysis including ‘Why did the Titanic sink?’ and ‘Why did Fukushima happen?’.
