Webinar overview:

Financial crime is accelerating and it's not because institutions lack AI investment. Fraud, AML and KYC budgets are growing, models are more sophisticated, and detection capabilities have never been more advanced. Yet the gap between what financial crime operations can do and what they're actually achieving continues to widen.

The bottleneck isn't the model. It's what sits beneath it.

When fraud, AML and compliance functions operate across fragmented systems with inconsistent data and no shared view of risk, even the most capable AI is working blind. The institutions gaining ground aren't running better algorithms, they have better visibility into what their models are seeing, deciding, and missing in real time.

This session examines what's genuinely shifting at the operational level - beyond the hype.

Learning outcomes:

  • A clearer diagnosis of why AI initiatives in fraud and AML underdeliver, and where the real bottleneck sits
  • A framework for evaluating unified, real-time risk visibility as a competitive differentiator
  • Practical insight into what converging fraud, AML and compliance functions actually requires operationally
  • An understanding of the regulatory trajectory - APP fraud, DORA, AMLA and how to evidence decisions under increasing scrutiny
  • A grounded view of where agentic AI is entering financial crime workflows and what that means for teams today

Giovanni is a Senior Solutions Architect and UK Financial Services Specialist at Elastic, with more than 15 years of experience at the intersection of financial data infrastructure and enterprise technology.

Before joining Elastic, he spent a decade at Bloomberg in a client-facing role, helping developers build production applications on normalized, real-time exchange data. That experience gave him firsthand insight into what it takes to make financial data trustworthy, fast, and actionable at scale.

His work spans fraud and financial crime across highly regulated industries, from strengthening pharmaceutical supply chain integrity to helping financial institutions tackle fraud, anti-money laundering (AML), and compliance challenges.

Today, he works closely with UK banks and financial institutions to unify fragmented data environments and make the data underpinning these operations more accessible, timely, and useful.

A core conviction shaped by his experience across data infrastructure and financial services is that the biggest bottleneck in AI-powered financial crime operations is rarely the model itself. More often, it is the fragmented and siloed data beneath it.

For Giovanni, unlocking the value of AI starts with creating a unified, trusted data foundation that enables financial institutions to detect risk faster, investigate more effectively, and turn data into action.
