Workshop overview:

Whilst more progress has been achieved in embedding ESG into financial risk frameworks, such as credit and market, understanding of operational risk integration is still developing. This interactive workshop provides a succinct and practical overview of key ESG components and offers a step-by-step guide for integrating ESG risk management into the operational risk framework. The environmental and climate-related aspect follows Prudential Risk Authority(PRA) guidance and international standards as more literature is available on the subject; whilst innovative approach is proposed for the S and G integration.

The workshop builds participants’ understanding of ESG, and focusses on tools such as risk events, RCSAs, scenarios, with added coverage of evaluation and management of reputational risk emanating from the ESG factors. The training features group studies that explore how peers have approached the topic.

The workshop is structured to provide the delegates with crucial knowledge as well as ample opportunities for group work and discussion, to address emerging themes and benchmark solutions with peer firms. It is packed with practical tips and hints and ends with ‘make a difference’ discussion, where attendees share takeaways that will make a real difference to their organisation. The training is based on a best-selling book, Operational Risk Management of Financial Services: A practical guide to establishing effective solutions, which serves as a base for the workshop materials and enables continuous learning.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand ESG definitions and aspects
  • Differentiate between physical, transition and liability risks
  • Find meaningful ways to incorporate ESG into operational risk framework
  • Examine impact on key tools: risk events, risk assessments and scenario analysis
  • Perform a deep dive into ESG in the context of reputational risk
