Response to HM Treasury Financial Services Future Regulatory Framework Review Call For Evidence: Regulatory Coordination

On 18 October 2019, UK Finance responded to HM Treasury's July 2019 call for evidence on regulatory coordination, the first publication in its Financial Services Future Regulatory Framework Review. The response calls for UK regulators to better implement their existing duties and powers and apply practices from elsewhere in the regulatory landscape. In particular, it recommends that the UK government should set out a clear strategy and policy statement for the banking and finance sector; regulators should define, deliver and demonstrate intended customer outcomes; cost/benefit analyses should take into account relevant activities by other public bodies and be subject to more routine external scrutiny; and regulators should collaborate on a shared business plan overseen by a coordinating mechanism able to ensure the pipeline of change initiatives is delivered safely.
