UK Finance supports the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA's) proposals to strengthen consumer protection where solicitors use or arrange third-party litigation funding.

Litigation funding can help consumers pursue legitimate claims that might otherwise be out of reach, but the rapid growth of funded claims and several high-profile law firm failures have exposed significant risks. Consumers can be left vulnerable where commercial incentives, funder influence or financial dependence undermine independent legal judgment.

UK Finance therefore supports stronger safeguards to improve regulatory oversight of funded claims. It argues that regulators should pay particular attention to business models that may encourage the pursuit of weak or speculative claims and that consumers should receive clear information about funding arrangements, who benefits from them and how they may affect the compensation ultimately received.
