UK Finance has responded to the Department for Business and Trade’s (DBT) consultation on its Strategic Steer to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
Our response notes the close engagement between the Government and regulators on supporting the growth mission, and we were pleased to see the focus on growth imbedded into the draft steer. However, we believe there is significantly more the CMA could do, and the strategic steer is an important lever in this regard. In our response, we identify three specific ways in which the steer could be strengthened, including encouraging the CMA to better prioritise pro-growth and pro-investment interventions, improve the transparency of its activities and improve the proportionality of its work.
