We welcome the Industrial Strategy Green Paper’s clear recognition that financial services will have a significant role to play, at the heart of this vision, in driving future economic growth.

In our response, we comment on six key pre-conditions for unlocking our sector’s growth-driving potential right across the UK:

1. Pro-growth regulation that unlocks bank lending to businesses of all sizes 
2. A clear and stable policy environment that makes the green transition more investible 
3. Reform of the planning system to unlock housebuilding 
4. Capital markets that ensure funding for companies at every stage of their growth 
5. A framework for money and payments that supports innovation and enterprise 
6. A workforce equipped to meet the rapidly evolving needs of the financial sector 

We see this submission as the start of UK Finance’s contribution to the development of the Industrial Strategy, and we will be working closely with HM Treasury on the development of its accompanying Financial Services Growth and Competitiveness Strategy.
