As interest rates have returned to more conventional levels, deposit savings has returned to centre stage, both for customers and deposit taking institutions.

For customers, an increased yield makes deposit accounts a much more attractive option. This has led to an increase in attention, and in some cases, price sensitivity. Pricing strategies and behavioural assumptions that worked previously are no longer fit for purpose.

From the perspective of banks and building societies, the large balances accumulated during the COVID years have begun to unwind and flows have increased, yet most find that they do not fully understand those flows. Under increased organisational scrutiny many are finding that they do not have the analytical tools and insights they need and are under-invested relative to the lending side of the balance sheet

At the same time increases in the cost-of-living have placed pressure on savings and led to outflows to support everyday expenditure. Under such circumstances savings skills and tools are increasingly valuable, but whose role is it to provide the tools and train the skills?

In looking to navigate the new environment, our experts will outline how banks need to:

  • Re-examine their product ranges to provide the right degree of choice and differentiation.
  • Optimise pricing using deep behavioural insight and mathematical tools to drive trade-offs and meet key business objectives
  • Re-engage customers and help them to improve saving behaviours as a key step towards improved financial health
